“I am a very indecisive human; however today I am making the easiest decision of my life.”
these words were infused into the vows spoken to my husband as we stood before one another on our wedding day.
back in the day, I was the girl who had a strong vision for her life; attend college, marry your first college boyfriend, begin having small humans — you get the drift. well to my surprise none of that started to come true, life took a hard left and this girl had no vision in sight.
recently I began working with a coach through work, I wouldn’t quite call her a life coach — more so a human who has been trained to listen intently and asking powerful (simple) questions.
after a few sessions of me word vomiting, taking her on a quite a ride — she stopped me in my tracks and offered me this;
“You are so much in your mind; debating, over analyzing and I am going to ask you to get out of your mind and into your body.”
let’s pause – into my body? what exactly does this mean. for me, working out is something that I start my day with – it is a source of energy, distracts me for what is going on around and helps set the tone for the day. this is something, I always find time to do.
however, what my coach was bringing awareness to was a core value of mine that hadn’t be present daily — creating, creating had not be a consisent practice of mine due to overthinking it.
and she was right.
when my coach suggested getting into my body – she set me up with a homework assignment to create a vision board. it allowed me the ability and challenge to use my hands and clear my mind of alllllll the things.
so, vision board I created (using canva – my favorite quarantine find)
i am sharing you my vision board that now sits above my computer – as a means to show you, getting out of my mind and into my body is working.
why? this blog is a prime example of getting out of my mind and allowing this creative space to just be — be whatever it needs to be at that moment. getting out of my mind allowed me to push publish (kinks and all) and throw out all the overthinking. it brought about excitement to being to create again.
when thinking of how to begin fill the blank page of my vision board – these are a few thought starters I navigated through.
- what brings you joy?
- what environment do you thrive in?
- what values are the constant through out your day to day life?
- what would you do daily to that leaves you feeling fulfilled?
- what activity / topic do you enjoy doing or talking about most often?
- when you look beyond – how is your future self living out a day?
- what do you want most in life?
for me, this vision board is a living document – something i’ll revise yearly if not quarterly. goals will be achieved, things will change or have to be adapted and that is okay. however for the most part intertwined in this vision board are the values that have never left – and direct me in where I am going – and how I am making the right decisions for me.
if you are on the struggle bus like i was with a lack of vision — or maybe you have the vision safe in your head of yours – I am going to challenge you to put it to paper, get it out there – there is power and inspiration to go after your goals once it is clearly in your pathway of sight.
